Primary School Curriculum

At WIST we understand the importance of preparing our students for a world of rapid change & progress. We have therefore selected curricula that not only support young peoples’ academic ambitions but ensure and uphold student well-being and provide rich meaningful learning opportunities. Pupils in our Primary School enjoy an exciting range of learning experiences blending collaborative and project-based learning focused on promoting opportunities for student innovation & leadership.  

We aim to provide an outstanding ‘British Education’ with ‘International Perspective & Global Citizenship’ in Tashkent. Our provision is designed to cover the National Curriculum for England and Wales & promotes developing ethical, thoughtful & responsible future global citizens by embedding the ‘United Nations Sustainability Goals’ through the ‘International Primary Curriculum’.

Hamilton Brookes English Curriculum

A structured, lively and interactive enquiry based pedagogical approach, often practical or investigational. Children are stimulated to learn through interesting, even inspirational, texts and hands-on experiences which draw on their existing knowledge and skills. The importance of generating understanding, underpinned by an in depth understanding of the work of Piaget, Vygotsky and Bruner.

Cambridge Global English

We incorporate Cambridge Global English to further support & scaffold early language acquisition. Speaking, listening and writing skills are developed through fun activities.

Abacus Maths Framework

Abacus is a unique maths toolkit written for the new primary maths curriculum, it is carefully crafted on a robust approach to creating inspired and confident mathematicians. It’s been built on 3 key principles: progression, understanding and control. The Abacus framework is a research-based curriculum which ensures children develop conceptual understanding, numerical fluency, problem-solving skills and mathematical confidence.

Learners develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematics through practical activities, exploration and discussion. Topics covered include calculating, counting and understanding number, handling data, knowing and using number, measuring, understanding shape and using and applying mathematics.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

Designed to be engaging, rigorous and enjoyable for primary-aged learners, the IPC embraces the transformative nature of learning with the goal of improving learning for all.

The IPC is designed around seven foundations for improving learning: Learner-focused Personal, International and Subject Learning Goals; A Progressive Pedagogy; A Process to Facilitate Learning for All; Globally Competent Learners; Knowledge, Skills and Understanding are taught, learned and assessed differently; Connected Learning; and Assessment for Improving Learning. The International Curriculum utilizes educational research to regularly enhance and review its design, ensuring that leaders and teachers are best equipped to guide effective learning in their contexts.

We further complement our primary provision through the delivery of specialist subjects from teachers who are highly trained within their specific areas. These include the music, ICT, PE, French, Russian, Uzbek, & PSHE.

Home Learning

Recognising the importance of continuity & ‘Home- School’ relationships we offer our families 2 online platforms to scaffold our students understanding around English & Maths. We use Active Learn (Bug Club) through Pearson to offer a wide variety of e-books, reading comprehension tools.

We offer an adaptive online Maths programme called MyiMaths develop your students’ confidence and fluency in maths

After School Clubs

Learning and development aren’t always things that happen in a classroom, at WIST our philosophy of promoting students passions or perhaps igniting a love for the arts, literature or music extends to our after school provision. We offer over 40 different activities that children can participate in, we hope that by participating in our after-school activities we will provide our students a breadth and richness of skills and habits and that will last a lifetime.
