Entry Assessment info

Entry Assessment

For prospective Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 children, parents and children meet with a member of the PLT and class teacher (for an observation, discussion, and assessment). Children need to be toilet trained before starting at WIST.

For Pre- Nursery and Nursery, the emphasis is on the Prime Areas of the EYFS Curriculum:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

For children in Key Stage 3/4 (Years 7-11), there will be a two and a half-hour online Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) sat by prospective students. This tests verbal, non-verbal, spatial, and quantitative understandings – it is culturally neutral and test’s general ability.

Students wishing to enter the Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13) will be assessed according to the educational background, but usually, they would take a number of papers in the subjects they wish to follow along with the CAT assessment.
