The WORLD CULTURES CLUB aims to help students develop a global mindset and engage with our world community of multiple traditions. Each week or two, students learn about a new country and participate in making a craft or food from the region they study. Another aim is to interact with members of our diverse local community and to realize our connectedness in today’s globalized world.
This week local Chef Doniyor came to show us the Korean art of making kimchi in our school kitchen. Students throughout middle school were able to learn about the ancient art of kimchi making and its importance in Korea. Tashkent as well, is home to a large Korean community of which our school is also a part. We have several Korean students who are part of our school life here.
We hope, in the future, to explore making batik (Indonesia and countries in Africa), St. Martin’s Lanterns (Germany) and mandalas (India) as well as many other activities.
